Shaving my head for the first time: Electric Razor or hair clipper/trimmer?

I'm planning on having a barber cut it down to a half before I shave it off myself. This is my first time and I honestly don't know if I'll keep ti shaved, or just trimmed.

Should I go with an electric razor or a hair trimmer (the type the hair stylists in salons use)? I was thinking of a hair trimmer but it looks a bit intimidating for a first timer. Closeness is not an issue, I'm not going for a super close, smooth shave. I just want to see how I'll look, at least for the first time around.

Help! What should I buy?

Thanks.

DONT DO IT!!!!

why don't you just have the barber cut it all off and save yourself the hassle?

Shaving my head for the first time: Electric Razor or hair clipper/trimmer?

You will never be able to shave half inch long hair with an electric razor (if that's what you mean). I shave once or twice a week and there is how i do it: I always make sure to run the clippers with no Gard to get the shortest stubble as possible.

I then take a very hot shower and lather generously with regular soap. I use regular shaving cream and i use Gillette custom + pivot razor (2 blades) which i buy at Cosco in packs of 52 for $26.00. That does the job perfectly. After that i use Vaseline intensive care extra strength with moisturizer that not only take care of my skin but it also allows me to feel all the imperfections and to correct them immediately. Try it you'll love it.

I have a dry scalp apparently, does any commercial shampoo/conditioner actually work?

whenever i get my hair cut, the stylist always compliments me on how healthy my hair looks. which is weird bc i have a really dry scalp! i've been using herbal essences "hello hydration" for a while but nothing has changed. i'm thinking about switching to their "no flakin' way" which is for dandruff--but i've just got a dry scalp...not dandruff. does this all mean i need an intense moisturizer or an anti-dandruff...or is there really no difference between the two?

danruff shampoos will dry ur scalp even more. They have a gel by Neurogena (I don't remember the name sorry). But my doctor recommended it. You can find it any local department store...

selsun blue or head n shoulders

greese your scalp

Head and sholder or aussie works

Dandruff is just an excess of flaking skin, not a disease. Try something like Head and Shoulders.

Use Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp formula. I had the same problem, I started using it and voila it was all better =)

Can you help me decide what to do?

I went to a salon that someone recomended to me. The person that recomended it to me had a nice hair cut and same texture of hair as mine. I was desperate to find a new stylist that would listen because the last stylist that cut my hair did a very bad job, weed whacker style. I waited several months to get some growth and then I decided to go to the new stylist. To make a long story short, she bragged to me how good she is and how she owns the shop. Once again, a stylist that did not listen to me and was talking on her cell phone cutting my hair, needless to say the cut came out not so good, she also left the color on my hair to long,my head was irritated and my scalp flaked later on. There is another stylist that works there,I noticed that she is very careful cutting hair and listens, doesn't talk on the phone and cut hair either. I plan on waiting SEVERAL months before doing anything with my hair. My question is really,do you think it would be okay to go to the other girl?

Can you help me decide what to do?

I think you have done well by watching them before you allow them to touch your hair. I'm not too insane but I always will watch someone work before I allow them to mess with me. I understand that the person you went to was recommended, but I would have went 20 or thirty minutes early and took a sneak peak at what was what. If you saw this next person in action I think you should go there with confidence and ask for them. Stylists vary and even if you have the same hair, they will shape and design differently from person to person. I would mention that you saw their technique from before, you don't have to mention how or why, and say that you appreciated their work. Not only is it ok, but I would strongly recommend it. After all between all the waiting its gonna be a half a year for this to work out, your image is most definitely worth it obviously. Sorry bout the mess. Cheers

Just whack all of your hair off

Can you help me decide what to do?

No I would try another beauty shop.

Can you help me decide what to do?

yeah, i do. it really irrates me that hairstylists think they can do all other sorts of things while they're working on your hair. many other jobs, people get fired for even talking on the phone. yet she screwed up your hair by not paying attention. i think going to the other stylist will not only get you a better cut, but it will make a point that you were dissatisfied with the first lady that cut your hair.

Can you help me decide what to do?

I suggest that you ask your other friends who have great hair where they get their haircuts done and next time if you are not satisfied with the service say something to the hairdresser or even better, the boss (e.g. talking on the phone while cutting someone's hair is not acceptable!). Good luck next time :)

Can you help me decide what to do?

I would go else wheres. Why chance it. If the owner lets someone like the one who screwed up your hair work there, she obviously does not care and has no standards and will hire anyone. Zillions of other places to go. Ask friends for a good recommendation.

Can you help me decide what to do?

I'd go to a different shop all together....eeks...

Can you help me decide what to do?

I think trying to find another place would be best. It wouldnt be so nice going to the other girl. But maybe if you would like...change your identity, then maybe it would work! =D Lol.

Can you help me decide what to do?

First,

before going to a stylist, ask to do a consultation. That way you get a feel for the person, and to see if the two of you have a common knowledge of what you want.

Second, I would have complained and gotten my money back.

Also, I would have jumped out of the chair the moment she was talking on the phone and cutting your hair. You are the CLIENT, speak up.

Try a place that you hear alot of get compliments about and also its not uncommon to go to one stylist who specializes in color and one in cutting.

Try a salon that has a both or if you want one , go to one.

But complain at that salon, call the head office and get your money back.

Don't pay for bad service.

Can you help me decide what to do?

So you had a bad haircut, Ok, tell the person that recommended the salon to you that you had a bad haircut and leave it at that. Then go and find your own. It is rather outrageous that the hairdresser was on the phone but maybe you are embellishing? Anyway, it's only hair

Can you help me decide what to do?

The place is irresponsibly run and the other girl might not be there in several months. The person who recommended it to you got lucky and luck shouldn't be what gets good service. There is an option of buying hair cutting equipment and having someone you know learn how to cut hair. That might work better than the people you have seen. Best would be to find a place that does a good job regularly. However, if you see the other girl in there and you don't have anywhere else in mind, you might get lucky by requesting her. Then again, you might get surprised in seeing she does the same thing when working on your hair as the other girl did.

We need more people like you in these places but you know what? You're talented enough to earn much more than hair stylists.

Can you help me decide what to do?

I can relate finding a good stylist is really difficult. The first thing I have to tell you is... speak up! You are always entitled to be heard, especially if you are paying for a service. Now, be gentle and nice, because in that way, there is a chance that the rude stylist migth learn some manners by the way.

I also know that it is not easy to speak up for everyone. I used to be extremely shy, and people kept doing what they wanted around me, until I got sick of it,

In this case, for example, you should go to the salon, and ask for the other stylist, the good one... but first TALK to her, and if she begins with the "i dont care" routine, be polite, say thanks, and get the hell out of there! It is your hair, you image and your life.

And keep experimenting, always remember that hair grows, so even if you mess it up, you can always mend it, in a couple of months... wouldn't you wish that everything in life could be this simple?

Can you help me decide what to do?

I would never return to that place and give that "owner" of the shop that can't even cut hair herself another dime of yours. Even if you don't go to her, she gets the profit. There are TONS of salons out there. First time, shame on them....second time, shame on you. Third time..... you're nuts if you consider it.

Can you help me decide what to do?

i had bad experiences with hair stylists too. they didn't pay attention were talking with other people while cutting my hair. anyways if u wanna get ur hair cut by the other girl try to talk to her before getting the hair cut. tell her what kind of a hair cut u want. take a picture with u of a hair cut that u like. hopefully she will do a good job.

Can you help me decide what to do?

Yes try other who has good reputation, and if she or he began to cut your hair and talking at the phone.. just stop them and ask for your right.

Can you help me decide what to do?

SURE! I'd change stylist!

Read my situation, it sounds kiddish to me..but I need opinions..?

I know this girl from 1 yr. She went to coll with me and now we work for the same company and the same department but different locations. During these work hours I have gotten to know her better and shared some good time with her. She recently asked me where I got my hair cut from and I sugg'td my hair stylist. After several discusons (which should have hinted me earlier that I shouldn't be getting into this) she decided to go to mine. She was chickening out even 2 mins before entering but I didn't force her to do anything. As expectd she wasn't too happy with the haircut and stomped out of the salon (i know the stylist for 3yrs now) and I was embarrased. Next she became extremely moody and so I just told her I have some errands and will not be able to go to lunch. She asked if we could go to the mall in the evening.. i said yea call me. I called her in the eveng as one of our frind's also wanted 2 go to the mall. She never answered. Its been 3 days she spoke. Whr dd I go wrong

Read my situation, it sounds kiddish to me..but I need opinions..?

umm... thank god this moody psycho never has returned your calls. do you really want to be friends with a stroppy cow who embarrasses you in front of people you've known for a long time? just carry on as normal.. if she comes and speaks to you, just tell her you didn't appreciate how she has behaved towards you in the last few days. if she doesn''t like that, she can take a running jump, can't she? i can't belive you are worried about this!

Read my situation, it sounds kiddish to me..but I need opinions..?

No. She's just childish.

Read my situation, it sounds kiddish to me..but I need opinions..?

moody person... that's who she is.

Hard to be friends with

Read my situation, it sounds kiddish to me..but I need opinions..?

You didn't go wrong. This girl just doesn't know how to get along with people. Be glad you don't have to hang out with her.

I'm asking a question! I'm not about points!!!!!Anybody here know about giving your hair?

Have you ever cut your hair and given it to cancer victims? Were you happy with what you were told? My 1st cut was done at home. Made pony-tail 2nd P-T above that, allowed for cut/DONE! saved long time/ just now realize prob 3 d0nations to hair

Now have more hair /no colors-nat-curl-is why so pissed B4-Way longer then, "stylist" ruined WASTED avaliable hair, husband pissed!! Any good cutters? "Good Grower. They want a category: how about: family/health/relationships/grooming/bea... I cut it it affects all! Also /Think long cut-help for others vrs- Short Alli s lost. Cancer Cut!

Did you ever cut off your hair and give/donate it to cancer victims? I've done this 2x angry over last time bad cut

ever done it more than once?

I'm asking a question! I'm not about points!!!!!Anybody here know about giving your hair?

donated 10 inches to Locks of Love. I'm growing it out again so I can donate another 10 inches. the stylist separated my hair into a bunch of small ponytails before cutting. if you don't do many small ponytails the sides end up shorter. www.locksoflove.org

I'm asking a question! I'm not about points!!!!!Anybody here know about giving your hair?

i donated to Locks of Love once. just have your stylist put your hair in a pony tail and cut it from there, then send it. just go to your regular stylist to have them do it - most are familiar with this charity.

I'm asking a question! I'm not about points!!!!!Anybody here know about giving your hair?

yep i recommend lock of love, i did that and it made me feel so good

I'm asking a question! I'm not about points!!!!!Anybody here know about giving your hair?

your story is really confusing. but i did understand your question....

yes, i have cut my hair to give to cancer vicitim. i cut it 10 in. in november of 2004....i didnt go anywhere to get it cut...my hair cutting lady comes to my house...so she just cut it for me, then i sent it to locks of love. i kept my hair at the same length until around april 2005. now im growing it out again, to donate it. i only need about 3 more inches...so i hope to cut it before jan. 2007!

I'm asking a question! I'm not about points!!!!!Anybody here know about giving your hair?

Well i did not let them put it in a pony tail and cut it.. they pulled my hair up separated it and then cut it for how short i wanted my hair.. i got it very short and gave alot of hair and i was happy with the end result. it is stupid how they waste all that hair by cutting it by pony tail.. my local salon does it the way i told them 2 if the people want to have short hair after they donate.

Trendy asian hair styles: can american salons cut it?

i'm interested in a trendy asian style but i'm not sure if american salons have even done them before? i've been to plenty of salons and it's surprisingly sad to see that their stylists are very limited. it seems that most are still stuck in the 90's. (ahhHhH!) anyone have any advice about how to choose a modern, trendy salon?

Trendy asian hair styles: can american salons cut it?

Sounds like you're just going to the wrong salons. It's a pretty huge generalization to assume that the few salons you've been to encapsulate the whole of American salons.

You might want to travel to the nearest big city to you; it's semi-ridiculous but if you truly are finding that hairstylists "can't" do your hair, then perhaps a bigger city venue might be more up-to-date with their styling and cutting methods.

Trendy asian hair styles: can american salons cut it?

Find people whose hairstyles you admire and ask them where they go for services. Chances are, even a stranger could help you out, and relax, its just hair, it grows back.

Trendy asian hair styles: can american salons cut it?

Unfortunately, the best hair salons that can give their customers the trendiest and latest hair styles are in Japan. Yes there are many top, professional hair salons in America but their styles are not as varied and up to date as those in Japan. Perhaps you can look out for Japanese salons based there or find a hairstylist who has been trained in Japan.

Trendy asian hair styles: can american salons cut it?

Well im in a simular situation but i cant find asian hair styles! I been looking for a while and all it does is lead you from one website to another to another to another till your not even on asian hairstyles your not even on hairstyles! And when i do find hairstyles that are asian there the curlyish kind, im really getting annoyed. I think my hair is the right type and im sure my solan can do it but pics of the hair style is what im missing. Im sure a solon can do your hair unless its thin also be sure if you do bring in a pic to a solon to get all sides and not just the front.

Oh and that danceing with the unicorns little prick! *Baka ka* About what you said, go to asia if you want an asian hair style this is america, Damn right its america! the country of different cultures, hairstyles, clothing, religon and much more. Ignorent HA! your the ignorent one to even comment, all you have to comment is something bad. All she is doing is wanting to find awnsers. The next time you want an awnser i hope you get a person just like you commenting.

Trendy asian hair styles: can american salons cut it?

You want an Asian haircut, go to Asia. You live here (I don't give a damn whether you were born here or not), you deal with what's here. Different places are different; if you expect the U.S. to be just like someplace else, that's just plain ignorant, and I'm afriad you're out of luck. If you don't like what you find in one place, go someplace else and quit bellyaching - at least here you can go where you choose, which is more than I can say for a lot of places.

Come to think of it - maybe you should just go to Asia and STAY there - sounds like you're much too "cool" to stay here.

Who cuts and styles Kat Von D's hair and does anyone have a picture of her hair?

She comes on Miami Ink and her hair is layered and she has a few pieces of blond in it. Is her hair stylist in Hollywood?
