iv got long thick brown hair. naturally wavey but i straighten it and no1 can tell its not hehe.
would like a fringe, not a thin fringe but a thicker 'side' one perhaps. tried them in the past but can never get it to sit right. think i hav a cowslick? so its ends up lookin like half a rainbow rather than sweeping across :@ if i straighten it then it will jus be too straight n stick out at a funny angle. lol. not guna get one cut unless i know how to make it look good!
any tips on styling a fringe so it looks natural and sits right?

You have to train your fringe to sit where you want it, not just cut it and hope for the best.
experiment with kirby grips and clips and leave it that same style for a few days.
this includes when you are drying and styling it.
pretty soon your hair will learn to sit there and then you can cut it.
EDIT: I didn't mean cut it by yourself i mean then you can get it cut...as in by a hairdresser. and you should NEVERRR EVERR cut the fringe off, you will look stupid and will have spiky bits the top which take ages to grow back

Sucks doesn't it? I use too have that problem but my hairstyle grew out and now my bangs look too heavy. When you get your bangs cut Have the part be farther back on your head so there's more hair combing too the front so it's heavier, it will be harder for it too stick up. Explain how you feel too your hair dresser about the problems your having with it.

the first ones right but wrong
NEVER cut your hair by your self
ask your dad or mom to fix it by cutting the fringe off

Try using a styling wax and mold it to the side with your fingers using a raking motion. Don't use too much as this can weigh down your hair. Also the longer the side bang, the more it's going to weigh down and the less it's going to stay in place. Try an eyebrow skimming bang that comes from the apex (top of head) instead of just the front hairline for a fuller bang. Ask the stylist to do an undercut which influences the way your hair lays.
You can also blow dry bangs up and out towards the side with a round vented brush to influence the movment of your bangs. Set with hairspray.

I have tht problems too. but when i comb it regularly the hair will stay where it should. ;) thin fringe also will help i guess..
